I found this recipe on www.cookiemadness.com when I was trying to find a treat for a dance we had on Sunday. We dancers love our sweet treats and when we have a square dance raid with a lot more dancers we like to present a big spread of treats for our guests, when we burn all those calories we have to replenish them at each break, or course we wash the treats down with sugar-free punch and coffee so that balances everything out!
This candy went over really well and many of the dancers said they had it before at other dances and some were asking for the recipe so here goes ladies.
2 cups pretzels
1 cup Fritos
8 mini peanut butter cups
1 stick unsalted butter ( 8 TB)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Some nuts to sprinkle on top, if you like
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13 X 9 pan with parchment paper or no-stick release foil.
Break up pretzels and Fritos, do not pulverize. Dump these into the pan. Unwrap and cut up the peanut butter cups into 4 pieces and sprinkle over the pretzels and Fritos.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan, add the brown sugar. Once the sugar has melted bring the mixture to a full boil and boil for 1 minute, stirring once or twice.
Pour the hot sugar mixture over the pretzels and Frito mixture. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 8 minutes.
After 8 minutes remove pan from oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot mixtures and return back into the oven. Bake for an additional 1 minute to melt.
Remove pan from oven and using the back of a large spoon, spread the melted chocolate chips over the top of the mixture and then sprinkle with the nuts if you are using.
Set the pan to the side and let cool to room temperature. Once cooled place pan in the refrigerator to finish cooling and hardening the chocolate on top. This should take about an hour for candy to be completely firm.
Once firm and cold, break the candy up into pieces like you would chocolate bark or toffee. Place in covered container and store in the refrigerator until serving, which keeps the candy out of sight so you won’t eat it all!
Verdict: You can’t go wrong with chocolate, pretzels and Fritos. Warning this is very addictive but go make some anyway! 😉
