Square Dancing at the Casselberry Hoedowners

We had a great dance on Sunday at the Casselberry Hoedowners even with this being the heat of the summer and so many of the dancers off for vacations and some not  expected to return until the fall.

Rod and I got to the dance at about 2:40pm  as the mainstream workshop was coming to an end. We had three full squares of dancers for part of the afternoon.
Dick Nordine is traveling to the north to Wisconsin and we danced round dances to cued rounds from the records, the accents on some of those callers is really hard to understand which makes us really appreciate Dick Nordine all the more.
The club was happy to welcome Gene, Marty, John and Judy back from their vacations to North Carolina. We hear they had a great time and did some square dancing while they were up there.
Norma Newton got the line dancers up on the floor  to Candida and Waltz Across Texas.
As always we thank Eileen, Rita,Lisa,Marta, Buzz,Tim and Julia for all their hardwork setting up the dance hall.
The club was reminded to bring their White Elephant gifts for the Christmas In July dance next Sunday on July 31.  We also have a raid scheduled with the Granada Squares planning on taking our banner on August 14th. That should make for a great dance.
Rod and Gene called some of their tips as a duet to keep the dancers concentrating on listening to the different calling voices and styles.  The dancers closed out the day and headed to the local Steak and Shake for dinner and renewed calorie intake after all the calories we burned off from dancing!
Rod and Gene both called at the Fun Bunch workshop last night and we had two full squares dancing. We had one couple from California that stopped in for a visit. We had four guys named “Bob” so getting them all into one square to dance one tip was fun for the dancers. It’s great to have a good turnout for this workshop with so many of the clubs closed down for the summer.
Other news: Continued update for the Labor Day dance as the callers, John Saunders, Gene McCollough, Roland Morin, Rod Barngrover and Dick Nordine are getting all their planning done. The dance will be from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Deland dance hall of George Sanborn Center. The theme is going to be “50’s and 60’sSock Hop with dancing first and then after the dance we will have pizza and rootbeer floats . Hope to see you all at that dance and as I get more details I’ll sure let you know.
Until next time I see you in a square or round sending you all a “yellowrock”.
